We'll be writing and talking about the landscape we're occupying in Utah
and the ones we come from, as well as inner terrain. This will be a workshop
of exercises and critiquing new writing in the morning and playing in the afternoon,
with after-dinner discussions and a public reading we'll put on at the local
Anasazi museum to share our work with the town of Boulder. The surrounding country
is incredible: http://www.utah.com/nationalsites/grand_staircase.htm
and the food is amazing (and award-winning!) http://www.hellsbackbonegrill.com.
The workshop runs from dinner, Monday Aug. 25th, through breakfast, Saturday
Aug 30th. We'll have three-hour sessions on Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Friday, and
disperse after breakfast on Saturday Aug. 30th. The cost is $425, which includes
the opening night dinner.
Housing is available at Boulder Mountain Lodge, where the workshop will be held
(but there are only 10 rooms left, so hurry if you want to book one:
http://www.boulder-utah.com/), and at Pole's Place, a local motel http://www.boulderutah.com/polesplace/motel.html,
as well as two nearby campsites: Calf Creek http://www.climb-utah.com/Escalante/calfcreek.htm
and Deer Creek http://www.tripleblaze.com/campgrounds/Utah/Deer-Creek-Campground/1567.html:
You want the nights of Aug 25-29. (YES, this is the week before Labor Day.)
If you're interested in this writing/hiking/restorative workshop, let me know
immediately, and send me your payment by July 15th. (If you need to make other
arrangements, just call.) This is a great place to bring spouses and families,
because there's so much for the non-writers to do: hiking, biking, riding, driving
to explore Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, taking photos, painting, etc. It's
an uncrowded time of year, and the weather's usually beautiful and in the 80s,
with one or two quick thunderstorms passing over. Kind of a secret miracle conjunction
of season and location. N.B. Boulder Mt. Lodge has some rooms that allow dogs.
